2015 West Coast Estonian Days Tour

Unistus Chamber Choir is a select choral ensemble of musicians from Portland, Oregon, who promote peace through the performance of various styles of music. Outstanding sacred, secular and Estonian songs will be presented with and without accompaniment.

The Estonian word “unistus” is roughly translated to mean day dream or fantasy. The dream of Unistus Chamber Choir is to promote peace through the art of singing.

Choral music plays a tremendously significant role in Estonian culture. It’s long been the vehicle for this small country to resist foreign occupiers, from the Danes to the Germans to the Russians. During the early 1990s, the Estonians “sang their way to freedom,” in festivals and massive demonstrations against the collapsing Soviet empire that had dominated the country since 1940. Through these actions Estonia regained its independence without any bloodshed.

This concert kicks off a summer Canadian tour with performances in Vancouver and Whistler.

Admission is by donation. All proceeds benefit our Neighbourhood Ministry to the Homeless.
