On Sunday April 12th, our guest preacher will be Professor John Conway, who will speak about the witness of the German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who was murdered by the Nazis exactly 70 years ago on April 9th 1945.  John's book The Nazi Persecution of the Churches 1933-1945 tells the sad story of how valiantly a few brave Christians like Bonhoeffer tried to uphold a true Christian witness against the forces of Nazi totalitarianism during those disastrous years.

John is Professor Emeritus of History at the University of British Columbia. He has specialized in the role of the German churches and the Vatican during the Third Reich, and on Christian-Jewish relations during the 20th century. He is the founding member of the Scholars' Conference on the German Church and the Holocaust. He was awarded the Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal in 1977.
