With over a decade of teaching and performance experiences, Tian Ip has embraced her position as the director of music here at St. Anselm’s Anglican Church since summer 2014. She has been accompanying Sunday services on our excellent electric organ, directing the St. Anselm’s choir, as well as organizing regular benefit concerts to raise funds for the West Point Grey Homeless Ministry. Started learning piano at the age of 4 and garnered a performance diploma from the UK’s Associated Board of Royal School of Music at the age of 16, Tian Ip is also a capable player of the Guzheng (Chinese zitar) and often performs publicly. With a passion in learning, Tian has obtained formal qualification in professional recording arts, choral conducting, general music studies, and is currently pursuing an organ performance degree with a minor in music technology at the School of Music in University of British Columbia. Tian Ip is also a certified instructor for the Yamaha music program. Outside of St. Anselm’s, Tian Ip works with the Simon Fraser University Choir as their accompanist, concert instrumentalist and in-house arranger. Occasionally, Tian would take on the role of a keyboardist in local rock/ pop concerts. However, her true passion lies in choral music and interactive media. Tian Ip has sung the different local choirs and has studied with several great choral conductors in Vancouver. Always wanted to combine her knowledge in classical music and music technology, Tian has recently found her way into interactive media and has been a part of the UBC Laptop Orchestra.
