Evening Prayer

The Service of Light

Presider               Jesus Christ is the light of the world

People                                 A light no darkness can extinguish

O Gracious Light- Recorded song

Thanksgiving

Presider               Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

People                                 It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Presider then offers a thanksgiving on behalf of the community

Presider               Let my prayer be set forth in your sight as incense.

Psalm 141 I call upon you, O Lord; come quickly to me;

give ear to my voice when I call to you. 2 Let my prayer be counted as incense before you,     and the lifting up of my hands as an evening sacrifice. 3 Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord;     keep watch over the door of my lips. 4 Do not turn my heart to any evil,     to busy myself with wicked deeds in company with those who work iniquity;     do not let me eat of their delicacies. 5 Let the righteous strike me;     let the faithful correct me. Never let the oil of the wicked anoint my head,[a]     for my prayer is continually[b] against their wicked deeds. 6 When they are given over to those who shall condemn them,     then they shall learn that my words were pleasant. 7 Like a rock that one breaks apart and shatters on the land,     so shall their bones be strewn at the mouth of Sheol. 8 But my eyes are turned toward you, O God, my Lord;     in you I seek refuge; do not leave me defenseless. 9 Keep me from the trap that they have laid for me,     and from the snares of evildoers. 10 Let the wicked fall into their own nets,     while I alone escape. Let my prayer be set forth in your sight as incense.

The Psalms- As appointed for the day

At the end of the psalms we say together: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

The Proclamation of the Word – As appointed for the day

Affirmation of Faith   The Apostles’ Creed

Presider:              I believe in God,

All                          the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.   I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Intercessions and Thanksgivings

The Collect

The Lord’s Prayer Presider:              Gathering our prayers and praises into one, let us pray as our Saviour taught us,

All                           Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.

Dismissal Presider               Let us bless the Lord.

People                 Thanks be to God.

Presider               The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore.

People:                Amen.
